$9.00130 Coste Petrai, Prosecco, Extra Dry, NV
Situated among the beautiful hills of Conegliano
and Valdobbiadene, Coste Petrai sources its grapes from
both of these high quality regions. Light and fruity with
a dry and citrusy finish.
$11.00146 Bleasdale, The Red Brut, Sparkling Shiraz,
NV
“It’s choc full of black forest gâteau
and dripping with inky mulberry juice, with a lick of sweetness
that kicks in at just the right moment on the finish.”
Taste Food & Wine 2007
$12.00117 Juvé & Camps, Cava, Brut
Rosé, NV
Cava is made by the champagne method, and typically,
uses Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo grapes. This rose cava
is made from 100% Pinot Noir, and is aged up to three years
on the lees. As a result it drinks like finer rose champagnes.
$13.00155 Cremant d’Alsace, Lucien Albrecht,
Brut Rosé, France, NV
Cremant is French for "creaming," which
in Champagne describes wines that are moderately sparkling.
Cremant wines can come from Alsace, Bourgogne and the Loire
Valley. The Lucien Albrecht Brut is made from 100% Pinot Noir,
lending it a pleasing red berry aroma and firm backbone.
$16.00111 Paul Goerg, 1er Cru, Blanc de Blancs,
Champagne, NV
Produced from Grand Cru vineyards. One of the best
values in Champagne according to the New York Times. Crisp
green apple and hints of lychee with a toasty finish.
$21.00118 Charles Ellner, Reserve, Brut, NV
“An opulent Champagne, with mushroom, toast
and honey aromas and flavors. Appealing, this draws you in
with its lush texture and supple mousse. Fine length, with
a long vanilla- and honey-tinged aftertaste. - B.S. Wine Spectator,
91 pts.
$24.00102 Louis Roederer, Brut Premier, Champagne,
NV
Jancis Robinson, esteemed wine educator and Master
of Wine, opines “…it is arguably the most reliable
non-vintage champagne of them all, made by one of the very
last family-owned large houses with their own grapes…
I have yet to experience a bottle of Louis Roederer Brut Premier
that did not taste deliciously superior and ready to drink.”
$27.00138 Varnier Fannière, Cuvée
Saint Denis, Brut, NV
“Light yellow. Dried apple and pear aromas
are deepened by subtle nut and butter qualities. Dry, sharply
focused orchard fruit flavors possess very good concentration
and take on a gently spicy quality on the back. Pretty uncompromising
wine that would be a great choice to go with unadorned shellfish
or mollusks.” 90 pts. - Tanzer
$30.00137 Laurent-Perrier, Brut, 1997
“Rich and velvety, offering lemon pie and mineral
notes, with shadings of toast and coffee. Not very concentrated,
yet well-balanced and crisp on the finish.” Wine Spectator,
90 pts.
$35.00156 Cuvee Volupte, Rene Geoffroy, Cumières,
2002
Unlike bigger Champagne houses, the Geoffroy family
was making wine in the 17th century and has kept their property
in the family ever since. Volupte is fermented in oak barrels
(under Mr. Geoffroy’s grandmother’s house) and
doesn’t undergo malolactic fermentation, so it maintains
crispness and ageing potential that most Cumières Champagnes
lack. A true grower-producer.
